About KrewBase

Two founders and a phone that gets answered

KrewBase exists because housing a working team is treated as an afterthought almost everywhere, and it is the thing that decides whether people turn up rested or wrecked.

The short version

Why we started

Every industry that sends teams away from home has the same broken step in the middle of it. The work gets won, the programme gets planned, the labour gets booked — and then somebody who has never been trained to do it spends their evening ringing round for beds.

What usually happens next is a compromise. Six people in three towns. A B&B with no kitchen and a 9pm curfew. Hotel rooms that eat the budget and leave everyone eating takeaways for eleven weeks. None of that shows up in a project report, but it shows up on site on a wet Tuesday morning.

We thought the fix was unglamorous and obvious: hold real property under contract in the places work actually happens, learn what a crew genuinely needs as opposed to what a booking site thinks they need, and give the person doing the booking one number to ring.

How we are set up

We are deliberately small. Two founders, a network of hosts built before the company had a website, and over 200 properties under contract across all four nations. There is no call centre, no ticketing queue and no account manager who has been with you for a fortnight. When you ring, you get one of us.

We are not a marketplace. Marketplaces post your requirement and wait to see who bids, which is why the answer takes days and arrives as a pile of links. We hold the stock, so we already know what is free, what the parking is like and whether the boiler is any good.

What we will not do

  • Put a crew somewhere we would not stay ourselves.
  • Send a shortlist padded with properties we know are wrong, to look busy.
  • Use stock photography and let you find out on arrival.
  • Quote a rate and then add fees to it at invoice stage.
  • Tell you we can cover somewhere when we cannot. If a location is thin, we will say so and tell you what is realistic.

How we work

Three things we hold ourselves to

Principle 01

Straight answers

If we cannot cover a location, or the dates are not realistic, we say so the same day. A fast no is worth more to you than a slow maybe.

Principle 02

The crew comes first

The person signing the invoice is not the person sleeping in the room. We source for the people who have to live there, because that is what makes them stay.

Principle 03

Answer the phone

Most problems in this business are small and urgent. Being reachable at 6:40am fixes more of them than any amount of software.

Come and test us on something

Give us a live requirement — ideally an awkward one. It is a faster way to find out whether we are any good than reading another page about us.
